The Last 10 Years

I've been evangelizing the Internet since 1994. That's a long time, but that's not why I'm writing this.

The longest time I was a away from a computer and more specifically email was a single 3 day stretch since 1996. That's 3 days in the last 10 years. I had no choice, I was on a ship in the middle of the Pacific Ocean. When we arrived in Bora Bora one of the first things I did was seek out a cyber cafe. But that not why I'm writing this..well kinda sorta I am.

For the last week or so I've been immersed in the startup of a new technology company. One of the many deliverables I own is the creation of a white paper. The process of creating the document made me pause. It made me think about the last 10 years of Internet progress.

It made me think that took 13 hours on planes, followed by 3 days on a ship to get off the net. I can remember when disconnecting was much, much easier. But hey, one of the new Blackberry's supports the GSM standard in use in French Polynesia - I can have my cake and eat it too!
